confused the size of dreams

The editorial on the amount of storage to store dreams is a pretty shoot-from-the-hip sort of affair. The author makes various assertions about color and detail which are far greater than my own memories and dreams. His calculations might be appropriate for his dreams, but my dreams would require far less storage.

My memories and dreams consist of vague ideas. I don't know if I've ever dreamt in color and I very rarely have memories of any sort with color. In fact, it's so rare that on the occasions when I have a full color highly accurate picture in my head, I stop and just try to keep the image in my head. It just feels really weird when it happens.

When I look at something with my eyes, I can see vague shapes off to the side with my peripheral vision. That's how eyes work, but for whatever reason, my dreams and memories all seem to be like that.

My brain functions on ideas and concepts. If I think of a red barn I'll "see" a barn which I "know" is red, but I don't actually see the color red in my head and I really don't see a picture of a barn either.

Math and logic are easy for me. Is there an inverse association between having a realistic visual memory and being good at math? Was it Catcher in the Rye that was the story about one kid that was good at math and another kid with an eidetic memory who was terrible at math? I wonder how much this sort of association holds.

In any case, I suspect that a month of my dreams could be stored on a floppy diskette. You'd only need a bunch of text and a few fuzzy low resolution pictures to get my full dream experience.
